WE ARE A SAFE SPACE

We Support the LGBTQIA+ Community

Hello there,

My name is Natalie Fox (she/her), and I am the Founder and Owner of Humane Hairspace LLC. As an indigenous, lesbian, transwoman with a recent heart transplant I have felt the sting of marginalization in different ways throughout my life. While my experience with inclusion, ability, accessibility, and equity is different from everyone else’s, I have created hu•mane to be a space for people to experience hair care services in the way they feel safe. With our diverse, multi-disciplinary artists, accessible hairspace, 24/7 onsite security, professional network of like-minded business partners, representative leadership, and more, we are always keeping our community in mind.

Did you know that we use the word “hairspace" instead of “salon” or “barber” to promote inclusion?

🏳️‍⚧️ What do you think of when you hear the word “Barbershop?”

- I think of a traditionally male-dominated space, servicing a masculine demographic with limited, specific service options, and a specific, rustic atmosphere.

🏳️‍🌈 How about the word “Salon?”

- To me, it’s the opposite of how I view barbershops, with female-dominated spaces, servicing a feminine demographic, with a different set of services, and a lavish, spa-like atmosphere.

Did you think of something similar with those terms? Well, we wanted to generalize the verbiage to prevent those ‘traditional’ associations. Hairspace is easy and to the point. It’s a space where you can go for hair services of all types, and that’s why it was important for us to ensure that our artists are multi-disciplinary. The term “Hairspace” also gets its roots from my experience as a flight attendant. You know, without the “h,” it spells “airspace.” This is just one of those personal touches that speaks to me, the Founder, and adds that extra je ne sais quoi.

The world is vast and no one is the same, so we are always meeting new and diverse individuals at the hairspace who deserve that same safety and inclusion that we strive to embody. With that in mind, we cannot stand still and have to continue to adapt to ensure that we successfully fulfill that mission. If you would like to network or chat about how you can get involved with hu•mane, please reach out to me, Natalie, and we can chat about what that would look like.

Thank you for all you do to support our community.
