The Right Insurance

Getting insurance can be an intimidating task, especially when it’s just one more fee to tack on every month. Luckily, it can be fairly affordable, and some of our artists have reported paying $16.00 or so a month (2024). Different states have different requirements for this, but our requirements are as follows:

General Liability: 1,000,000 Per Incident and 2,000,000 Aggregate

Property Insurance: Since your property can be covered by the general liability, we don’t require this, but it is recommended for additional protections on property liabilities.

Additionally Insured: These organizations will need to be added as additionally insured to your policy, this shouldn’t cost you any more for your policy. Please reach out to Natalie Fox if something comes up.

Area Renter’s License

NYS Devision of Licensing Services

You will have to get your insurance before getting your area renters’ license because the NYS Division of Licensing Services will use the information as proof that you are renting. I have listed the process for this below.

  1. Login into your NYS.Gov Account, if you don’t have one already, you can Create a New Account.

  2. Select the New York Licensing Center option

  3. Apply For New License

  4. Select Area Renters License

  5. Fill out the Application Prompts

    • You will need your hair license information.

    • Use our address for your business address: 1 S. Clinton Ave., Suite C500, Rochester, NY 14604.

    • There is a ~$60.00 Fee for the processing of your application for the NYS DLS.

  6. Submit Your Application

  7. Natalie Fox will send you your confirmation code, and any other info for your application.

  8. On the NYS Licensing site, use the Confirmation Code to verify your application.

  9. It should take 24-48 hours to receive feedback on your application, but typically gets approved or disapproved in less than 1 hour.

Disclaimer: Your document may not arrive for several months, so print out your application approval document and we will post that at your station.

Service List

The last piece of the puzzle is your service list. This will also be published at your station so customers can view the services you offer. It requires the type of service and the cost for each one. Make sure you are not gendering the services and instead generalize to include everyone.

The frames that we provide are 1/2” black 8” x 10” rectangular frames, so please feel free to print it to that size.

License Photos

What should my photo look like?

There are only 2 places that you need to have your photo published in the hairspace. The first location is on your Hair License, the second is on your Area Renter’s License.

Each photo is require to be exactly 2” x 2”.

Photos should be placed in the spaces assigned for photos, and should not cover any text on your licesnses.
